So You Think You Have a Monet
Claude Monet is famous for a lot of things, but the one most persons don't know is he is the most difficult of all the French Impressionists to authenticate. Monet's style and painting techniques are so easily copied, the forgers have a field day with Monet's work.
First, Monet didn't just apply the paint on in just one session like Van Gogh. He applied layer after layer on top of previous dry paint. To identify what Monet painted and what a forger added on top is extremely difficult. Second, Monet did the same subject dozens of different ways. All forgers have to do is make variations of his variations and the whole thing will "fly". Third, his step-daughter painted under Monet's supervision in the identical manner. Many of her works have "sprouted" Monet signatures over the years.
Monet was so prolific there is a good chance someone could find an unknown painting. If you think you have a work that could be his. Many of his series paintings have never been found. We have over 46 years experience in authenticating Monet's work. Our experts have even spent numerous summers researching at his home in Giverny, France. No one knows Monet like we do. We can often work from Monet photos.
